Hi,

iam feeling a bit lost in this parport Issue.

The Bios-Setting for lp0 definitely is 0x378/0x7, so wether i load the
Modules or compile parport/parport_pc/lp.o directly in the Kernel, i
always get:

| parport 0x378 (WARNING): CTR: wrote 0x0c, read 0x04
| parport 0x378 (WARNING): DATA: wrote 0xaa, read 0xff
| parport 0x378: You gave this address, but there is probably no parallel
| port there!
| parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [PCSPP,TRISTATE,EPP]
| lp0: using parport0 (polling).

For the sake of it, i even loaded the Modules with specifying irq=none
(thats why it says polling there). When searching on google i found
various hints that the "read 0xff"-thing in the second line is
considered bad, but no hint even *why* this is supposedly bad.

Maybe someone can shed some light.

thanks
(please cc: me, since iam reading this list only spontaneously)
