Running wheezy - kde plasma desktop I want to get rid of pulseaudio. I almost never even use sound in linux and I see it always chugging away at 5-8 % cpu. That seems a bit extreme some how.
But anyway I don't need it. aptitude remove pulseaudio Offers what appear to be pretty ridiculous solutions. Things like uninstalling gnome-core. Isn't that a bit dramatic just to get rid of pulseaudio? Remove the following packages 1) gnome-accessibility 2) gnome-core 3) libcanberra-pulse 4) pulseaudio-esound-compat 5) pulseaudio-module-x11 6) task-gnome-desktop Leave the following dependencies unresolved: 7) gnome-settings-daemon recommends pulseaudio 8) speech-dispatcher recommends pulseaudio 9) task-desktop recommends task-gnome-desktop | task-kde-desktop | task-lxde Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?] When I say `n' I get another rather dramatic solution: The following actions will resolve these dependencies: Remove the following packages: 1) gnome-accessibility 2) gnome-core 3) libcanberra-pulse 4) pulseaudio-esound-compat 5) pulseaudio-module-x11 6) task-gnome-desktop Install the following packages: 7) cdparanoia [3.10.2+debian-10 (testing)] 8) cdrskin [1.1.8-1 (testing)] 9) dvd+rw-tools [7.1-10 (testing)] 10) genisoimage [9:1.1.11-2 (testing)] 11) k3b [2.0.2-3 (testing)] 12) k3b-data [2.0.2-3 (testing)] 13) k3b-i18n [2.0.2-3 (testing)] 14) libflac++6 [1.2.1-6 (testing)] 15) libk3b6 [2.0.2-3 (testing)] 16) libk3b6-extracodecs [2.0.2-3 (testing)] 17) libqtcore4-perl [4.5~~svn1145508-2+b2 (testing)] 18) libqtgui4-perl [4.5~~svn1145508-2+b2 (testing)] 19) menu-xdg [0.5 (now, testing)] 20) task-kde-desktop [3.07 (testing)] 21) vcdimager [0.7.23-5 (testing)] Leave the following dependencies unresolved: 22) gnome-settings-daemon recommends pulseaudio 23) speech-dispatcher recommends pulseaudio 24) task-kde-desktop recommends k3b Accept this solution? [Y/n/q/?] ------- --------- ---=--- --------- -------- I don't need most of what I see there I don't understand why this needs to be such a dramatic step. I'm asked either to uninstall fairly basic pkgs like gnome-core or to install a whole pile of stuff... Just to be rid of pulseaudio.
