What's the error you're getting?
The changelog of the package:
***
gtk+2.0 (2.24.8-3) unstable; urgency=low
* Change section of gir1.2-gtk-2.0 to introspection.
* debian/patches/044_tracker_fts.patch:
- Enable tracker fulltext search.
* debian/patches/070_revert_gtk_iconview_layout.patch:
- Revert "iconview: layout items immediately when setting a
GtkTreeModel"
as this could lead to a crash in GtkIconView. Closes: #650609

In principle I can't see nothing relevant for libgtk2.0-0 :-?
If the older version works, I would just report it.
No error, just no compiz behavior after the upgrade, like no 6 desktops,
alt+ctrl+left does nothing.
I couldn't see anything relevant in the changelogs either. I am about to
test an upgrade with the libgtk packages pinned to the old version and
see whether it was indeed them that caused the problem.
Sorry, my bad :-(
I forgot to reinstall the Nvidia driver after the xorg upgrade and that
was the problem. I found that by googling on the compiz error message
and finding this:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1631710
It had *nothing* to do with libgtk2.0-0.
