Plus, the fix mentioned there does not apply here since there is no file named /var/run/synaptic*.socket present to delete. Thanks for the effort though. For further input, I did reboot for other reasons and kind of thought that might change things with synaptic too, but it didn't. Well, it does show a bit less resource usage but still over 80%.
