Greetings:

As I setup my debian box, I installed xinetd so it would be more like
the RH setups I was used to. The change seemed to go fine when I
installed it via dselect. I expected a conflict with inetd, but got
no complaint. I did get a message that the jist was nothing that had
been previously installed would be upgraded. I wasn't sure what this
meant, although I had an idea...

Now trying to disable telnet, I added "disable = telnet" to my
xinetd.conf file in the defaults section, but telnetd is still
answering. inetd is not running.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to reinstall every application that
uses inetd/xinetd?

Can you 'apt-get remove telnetd'? I mean, if you are going to have it disabled, why not just uninstall it?
