Thanks Bob, Tom and Porcia ! Bob's "Bohr model of linux kernel" was an excellent one. I was just curious to know the nomenclature of that package & now i have an idea of what happens. I'm happy with current kernel because all my hardware is detected/working properly, so I find no reason to upgrade to 3.1.x.y. I must congratulate Debian team for making Squeeze -- I mean, it refuses to crash !
