Before wandering too far down the wrong path I should establish which forest I'm in. root@whiterock:~# lspci | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility M3 AGP 2x (rev 02) Squeeze uses fglrx-driver 1:10-9-3 and http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary mentions "As of fglrx-driver 1:9-4-1, support of chipsets prior to the r600 series has been dropped.1" http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary also has a "supported devices" link to http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/catalyst_109_linux.pdf which lists many Mobility Radeon series and zero Rage Mobilities. So is a Rage Mobility M3 prior to the r600 series? If so http://wiki.debian.org/ATIProprietary tells me not to bother with the fglrx-driver. The technicalities here really aren't too difficult but the terminology could be improved. Thanks, ... Peter E. -- New telephone 1 360 639 0202.
