Apache dies silently?

I have the following   cookiemonster:~# dpkg -l | grep -ir apache ii  apache         1.3.27.1-3     Versatile, high-performance HTTP server ii  apache-common  1.3.27.1-3     Support files for all Apache webservers ii  apache-ssl     1.3.27.1-3     Versatile, high-performance HTTP server with   All of a sudden apache dies silently, nothing in any logs, it just never starts up. apache-ssl runs fine tho. I did a "strace apache" which didnt really reveal anything that i could see. Quite frankly, i am not even sure how to start to debug this one? The server has been running fine for ages?
