If you have spare computer (old and slow is acceptable) and three ethernet cards, you could download and install SmoothWall (www.smoothwall.org), and be running within a half-hour, and at no expense. The point of using SmoothWall is that it is extremely simple to install and configure -- even a Window$ user can do it. Then, once experimentation shows you what works, you can look for a firmware router to reduce space and electricity requirements.
