As an American, I think we should honor the long history of this proverb by at 
least *knowing* the full form, since "the proof is in the pudding" makes 
little sense.  "The proof of the pudding is in the eating." is a bit of an 
archaic wording, but it does make sense; you don't know the quality of pudding 
before you taste it.
