Remember you only tested near sequential access. That's what hard disks are still quite good at. What makes your system feel sluggish is random access and WD's 5400rpm WD10EARS is most probably slower at that than most old 7200rpm drives. > I wonder why this is, obviously the bottleneck is not the hard drive.
