On a fresh Squeeze system, Gnome is asking for the root password when mounting an NTFS drive (/dev/sda1, which houses Windows OS). ntfs-3g is installed, but is not being used for some reason.
This install started as a "standard system" and then I installed gnome-desktop-environment, so perhaps something got missed that is installed/configured during a normal installation.
