Well shut my mouth...
Either this is now standard with the latest update for gdm on Sid, or the feature (prompting for the root password on shutdown/reboot/halt) is enabled only on the standard greeter.
This change was introduced by the latest gdm update. The graphical greeter should do the same.
I am still not prompted for a password to shutdown or reboot from gdmgreeter.
Can someone else running a recent Sid copy of gdmgreeter (gdm package 2.4.1.6-1) see if they are prompted for the root password to shutdown?
(Note: I believe you need to have "Secure System Menu" checked on the security page of gdmconfig.)
On my system gdmlogin prompts for the root password but gdmgreeter does not even though I have "Secure System Menu" checked.
I just want to see if this new feature (Secure System Menu) is working on the gdmgreeter (graphical) for others. If it is the problem must be a configuration problem on my system.
