Ugh. It does not detect the ethernet device either.

But... what kind of device is that? Are you using an adapter
(firewire to
ethernet)? :-?
What is the output of "lspci | grep -i ethernet"?
Also, you may check out any related options in your BIOS, especially if
you changed them lately.
