For those wanting to "lighten up" the gnome desktop, alt+f2, gconf-editor, ctrl+f the following:
low_resource (enable) workarounds (disable) animation (disable all that come up) The difference between xfce and gnome, for me is negligible, and losing a decent screensaver, gdm and powermanager not worth it. Once you install gnome-screensaver, you may as well just install gnome as it pulls in about 60% of the core components anyway. For those who want a light-de, LXDE is taking over from XFCE. On the other hand, when Jack Bauer visited Tony at his home to ask for help, his computer was running XFCE.
