trying to mount two different drives on the same mount point (/).

Actually it is the 'mtab' that shows the two  '/dev/sda1'  entries. I'll
try editing it and see what damage I can do!!!

Yes - but the point I made is that in /etc/fstab you have two *partitions* /dev/hda1 and /dev/sda1 BOTH trying to mont on one mount point, /. If you look again at my email you will see that that is what I said.
