Depends on your Machine CPU. amd64 for 64bit( Core 2 Duos line for intel ) CPU. IA64(Itanium 64) high end CPU's mostly for server lines. amd64 is more common now though.
BTW debian has a kernel in its repository suffix bigmem. Try it. Your 32bit debian will detect your memory above 4GB.
