I cannot reproduce that behavior. I've tried to uninstall "libesd0" and 
install "libesd-alsa0" but all sounds are still working (system sounds, 
youtube, totem...).

How about disabling system sounds? Re-login after the change and check if 
you can hear anything from youtube.
