I bought a 1TB disk yesterday for the same purpose. Since 1TB
filesystem sounds very scary I used LVM to create separate logical
volumes for each backup tree (I use incremental rsync trees with
hardlinks, google for more info). I used ext3 since it is stable and
supports resizing trivially).
