Well, to answer to myself (since nobody else will): elisa requires 3d hardware acceleration to work, so it won't even start on my current Lenny system (backported kernel, ergo no fglrx, ergo no acceleration). As for freevo, I'm currently having a peek at it and it seems to be just a video-recording appliance and a juke-box. I can't seem to find where it keeps its settings and config files though.
