Libraries are rarely critical, in the sense that 99% of the time, if you aren't using software that declares a dependency on them, they can be removed. IOW, it's fairly uncommon for an end user to directly require functionality from a library package. On my system, the only library packages (in the sense of '^lib') that I keep manually installed are libc6-i686 and libgl1-mesa-dri.
