Hi... I am currently running Debian testing upgraded with the latest Gnome and totem. I have installed w32codecs and I think I have all the required gstreamer plugins:
$ dpkg -l | grep gstreamer ii gir1.0-gstreamer-0.10 0.10.25-4 Description: GObject introspection data for ii gstreamer0.10-alsa 0.10.25-7 GStreamer plugin for ALSA ii gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg 0.10.9-2 FFmpeg plugin for GStreamer ii gstreamer0.10-lame 0.10.13-0.1 GStreamer lame plugin ii gstreamer0.10-nice 0.0.10-2 ICE library (GStreamer plugin) ii gstreamer0.10-pitfdll 0.9.1.1+cvs20080215-1 GStreamer plugin for using MS Windows binary ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad 0.10.17-1 GStreamer plugins from the "bad" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-base 0.10.25-7 GStreamer plugins from the "base" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-good 0.10.17-1 GStreamer plugins from the "good" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad 0.10.17-0.1 GStreamer plugins from the "bad" set ii gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly 0.10.13-2 GStreamer plugins from the "ugly" set ii gstreamer0.10-tools 0.10.25-4 Tools for use with GStreamer ii gstreamer0.10-x 0.10.25-7 GStreamer plugins for X11 and Pango ii gstreamer0.10-x264 0.10.13-0.1 GStreamer x264 plugin ii libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-0 0.10.25-7 GStreamer libraries from the "base" set ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.25-4 Core GStreamer libraries and elements ii totem-gstreamer 2.28.4-1 A simple media player for the GNOME desktop When I open Nautilus: * totem-video-thumbnailer fails to create video thumbnails for almost all formats (only mpeg thumbnails are generated) * totem fails to play the files * Right-clicking on the file in Nautilus and choosing 'Properties' opens a "Creating properties window" and stops at that point... Mplayer and xine *are* able to play the files... its only totem - and by extension Nautilus - that is having problems with these videos. Searching online I have tried a few suggestions with no success. I have confirmed in gconf that totem-video-thumbnailer is enabled and that the program is installed. I have deleted the ~/.thumbnails/fail directory to have Nautilus try to re-generate the thumbnails. I notice that both 'totem-gstreamer' and 'totem-xine' are marked as transitional packages... I have tried un-installing and re-installing both of them but neither makes a difference. Something must have changed in the last 2 weeks because I did a Debian testing install on another box and installing 'totem-xine' had everything working just fine. Any help would be appreciated...
