I'd first say, have you tried contacting the package maintainer(s) to find out why they haven't packaged 1.41 yet? There might be a stumbling block reason why not, which you would also hit, or they might be too busy, in which case you might be able to help them, and benefit everyone. > Is there a recipe for Dummies (that's me!) that works? You can't hope to unpick why the 1.40 debian packaging isn't working for 1.41 without understanding a bit about debian packaging. Start with the new maintainer's guide in package maint-guide, or <http://www.debian.org/doc/maint-guide/>. The debian-mentors mailing list may be helpful for you, if you have packaging-specific questions. However, if all you want to do is package up the results of "make install" into a debian package, for ease of uninstallation, there is a tool which can help you called "checkinstall" - <http://packages.debian.org/checkinstall>. -- Jon Dowland
