Installing is pretty easy. You can actually add their PPA repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list, and just install normally. It depends on liblzo1, which you must first manually install from Etch. Grab the .deb from http://packages.debian.org/etch/liblzo1 and just run "dpkg -i" on it. Then add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/team-xbmc/ppa/ubuntu/ hardy main (Use hardy for Lenny. If you run testing or unstable, you can use either intrepid or jaunty.) Then: apt-get update apt-get install xbmc That's it. It's installed. Play around with it. Change the video settings to start fullscreen, and to Sync to Vblank. Add your movie directory, and let it download movie posters and descriptions from TheMovieDB.org. Try some different skins. My favorite is the MediaStream skin, http://teamrazorfish.co.uk/mediastream.html > PS: That ones also seems to require 3D support, right? It > doesn't mean > it'll be necessarily as sluggish as Moovida, of course, but > still... requiring so much compute power just for some minor eye-candy > boggles my mind. It uses OpenGL for effects and overlays, etc. It also renders video using OpenGL (unless you use VDPAU). That being said, it's quite responsive on my old, slow, single core CPU laptop.
