Maybe the *global* colour settings for monitor display are misadjusted. I calibrate my screen with a reference photo, using kde's control centre and leave gimp's colour profiles (and those of all other photo editors/viewers) at default values. You could also adjust those settings in /etc/X11/xorg.conf directly.
