I don't think that I have any mono stuff on my system, and IIUC, Debian won't install it unless you want something that requires it. One of the only things that I recall ever considering that required mono was Beagle, and I didn't install it, partly because I didn't want to bring in an entirely new environment just for that one application. But if I had, it certainly wouldn't have been Debian's fault.
