So that it wouldn't change Choo-choo to Perlhoo-choo.Unfortunately, nowadays "s/C /Perl /".Wouldn't it be easier to read if you wrote it s/C/Perl/ ?
When I saw the question, I thought the obvious counter-example was so that it doesn't change C# to Perl# :)
Now that's a frightening thought. Just what would Perl# be like?

PS I'm a Luddite that refuses to learn C++. Backward compatibility with C was the single biggest mistake Stroustrup made.
