I fully recommend stupwm, but I would like to say it's not nearly as
stable as, for instance, dwm or wmii. Just an example: I have just tried
to use nxclient under it, stumpwm popped up lots of errors and now each
window appears twice or thrice in the window list. And it has already
happened several times, with different programs. But it has never
hanged, and I have never lost anything (my config makes it really hard
for a wm to make me lose data, as I run almost everything under an emacs
daemon or under a screen sesssion).

Great! But you could perhaps explore the possibility of building a
backport of the squeeze/sid version in lenny...
