If you had told us how you tried to do that and what exactly happened
instead, we might have been able to help you. But hey, it's never too
late! :)

Your usage of dpkg is wrong. First, a manual installation like this will
not magically solve the problems you get when using aptitude, apt-get or
synaptic. Instead, it can make your system inconsistent and you might
have problems upgrading other packages in the future. Second, 'dpkg -i'
takes a *filename* as an argument, not a packagename. There's at least a
'.deb' missing from your argument.
