Not completely clear from reading your configs, but if you use LDAP over SSL or TLS, then the Lenny packages for TLS are fussier about the type of certificates that can be used to verify the service. I had exactly this issue upon upgrading a machine to Lenny, because the certificate - which was based on RSA/MD5 - was no longer considered safe. Making a new certificate using SHA1 instead of MD5 fixed the problem.
