There are a couple bug reports open on various problems, e.g. that people don't like it when aptitude is too aggressive about removing packages. I'm actually working right now on some enhancements to the resolver, aimed at making its results more *predictable* (distinct from "better"; I think that predictability is probably better for users than some hard-to-pin-down notion of quality).
