Been using lilo since Debian potato.

After a little googling, this looks like bug #510223, and it appears to
be a grub one.

Perhaps the OP could comment out the "postinst_hook = update-grub" line
in /etc/kernel-img.conf, retry the kernel installation (apt-get -f
install), and run update-grub manually afterwards?
