Another approach to avoiding password typing is to use sshfs to mount an access poing thru which you can access (rw) the file with root priveleges from a user shell. Have I said it so its understandable? I do it and it works. There is some automagical redefining of rwx to root for those which pass thru the sshfs deamon.
