CDs and DVDs are fundamentally different: a CD is a polycarbonate disk
with its markings (either stamped or dye for rw) being covered by a thin
layer of varnish. For a DVD the data is sandwiched between two disks!
That means that there is much more protective material between the data
and the top of the disk. For single-sided DVDs it should be rather save
to use more aggressive solvents, pens, etc. on the non-data side.
