I found with my Pavilion DV6458se (which I'm typing this on) that the Debian installer could not reliably partition the hard drive. However, the Ubuntu Intrepid installer worked flawlessly--thus I'm typing this from an Ubuntu session. Ubuntu is very Debian-like and I had very little trouble getting used to it. Partitioning is part of the installation process and reasonably straightforward. I recommend leaving the recovery partition if you plan to keep using Vista at all, shrinking the main Vista partition, and creating at least three new ones: an ext3 partition for Linux, a swap partition, and a VFAT partition for data that can be shared between Vista and Linux. Sizes will depend on your requirements. Note to Debian developers: I'd be glad to help debug the Debian installer on this box, if anyone is interested. -- Carl Fink [email protected] Read my blog at blog.nitpicking.com. Reviews!
