You could use hdparm testing to get the unbuffered speed and then do the math. It also depends if you're doing anything with the other drive on that IDE channel. I.e. dd from one to the other drive on the same channel will take much longer because only one drive can be accessed at a time, possibly with some type of context-switch overhead in-between as well.
