Google gets your message back from the list server, but it hides it by
default. I'm fairly sure it is available in you gmail inbox if you dig

Actually, with IMAP I see my own messages about 90% of the time. I find
it weird that they sometimes don't come back to me, though.
Gmail only shows you your messages if someone replies to it.
