Sven,
re: problem 1
What command(s) do I need to execute after I correct the typo in the file?
re: problem 2
Where/how can I find the error messages of the failed post-installation
script?
My system is very badly messed up:
- tty 1-6 broken; i.e., cannot login
- gnome broken: application windows crash; "clearlooks" theme has
vanished; fonts messed up
- apt and aptitude were both stuck after the upgrade as well but
removing epiphany seemed to fix that
Cheers,
Nick

Hi everyone,
I just upgraded my Lenny system and encountered some problems. Here are
two of the problems but there were others also:
1. Preparing to replace libempathy-gtk-common 0.23.3-2 (using
.../libempathy-gtk-common_0.23.3-3_all.deb) ...
(gconftool-2:5099): GConf-CRITICAL **: Failed to load file
"/var/lib/gconf/defaults/%gconf-tree-pt.xml": Error on line 890 char 72:
Element 'lobal_schema' was closed, but the currently open element is
'local_schema'
Looks like 'lobal_schema' is a typo, and you need to edit the file and
replace it with 'local_schema'. Unfortunately I know nothing about
gconf, so I have no idea which package could be responsible for it.
2. Errors were encountered while processing:
epiphany-browser-data
epiphany-gecko
epiphany-browser
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
That may be related to the first problem.
<snip>
dpkg: error processing epiphany-browser-data (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
The error messages of that failed postinst would be helpful.
