I am trying to do a complete backup of a drive in a brand new laptop to eventually wipe and install linux.
I'm trying to use the command: tar -cjf - < `dd if=/dev/sda bs=512` | ssh otherhost.com 'cat > /path/to/file.tar.bz2' Ends horribly with the error: -su: xrealloc: ../bash/subst.c:4425:cannot reallocate 536870912 bytes (0 bytes allocated) I'm trying to do the compression on the fastest computer if possible. I have tried googling but cant for love or money turn up results that lead me to a solution. I am using a knoppix live cd on the host computer to do the copying. I've lost a machine.. literally _lost_. it responds to ping, it works completely, I just can't figure out where in my apartment it is. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
