Hi Frank. I should have realised that all the above output would be ok, when a couple of posts back, you said that aplay was working ok. Did you run aplay as user, or root? I ask because it sort of sounds like a permissions problem. If you did run it as root, it may be worth a look in /etc/group, and make sure that your user name is still attached to the audio group.
