You can see package situation from several sites. http://packages.qa.debian.org/c/clamav.html http://qa.debian.org/[EMAIL PROTECTED] http://dehs.alioth.debian.org/maintainer.php?name=clamav These tells me clamav is out of sync with upstream even in unstable but volatile is almost as good as unstable in terms of upstream version. Debian unstable 0.93.1.1 package is updated with a security patch thus while Unstable 0.93.1.dfsg-1.1 while Volatile version seems slightly old 0.93.1.dfsg-volatile1 . BTS is good source of info: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?repeatmerged=no&src=clamav http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=490925 You may submit bug report on new upstream release and do the similar thing as bug490925 to promote package updates.
