I am in the same boat. Lenovo is asking (through a pool) what ports are nice in a laptop, you could vote on the RS-232 as I did. The poll is in Lenovo's excellent "Design Matters" blog. Drop the parallel port, and you have enough real state for a RS-232 in DB9 format, and 4xUSB. Failing that, even a RJ45-format RS-232 port would be nice...
