Yes. I had opened a ticket on that, thinking that it was an error in 
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but was told that this is the new and 
improved behavior.

I also use the nvidia driver, and am frustrated by the lack of 
autodetection while being told that "everything is autodetected now". 
But the ticket was closed, regardless. Such is life.

Edit your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file like this:
