I'm having fun. I've compiled quite a few options into my kernel so the image is 2MB but I'll probably drop some when 2.6 proper gets released. I'm using ALSA for sound with OSS emulation. Works great and I'm very happy with it. 2.4 just got a taste of 2.5s ACPI which is nice stuff. My only problems with it is that it doesn't detect my batter status at the moment but I've filed a bug on that. Also, unlike under 2.4, with 2.5 if I hotswap my battery in my laptop for my dvd-rom it can be nudged to detect it. It has a new framebuffer subsystem which is actually half-decent under the plain VESA driver. I'm using the kernels inbuilt PCMCIA stuff and that was really well now. Did have a few problems for a while but they all got sorted for me. Under 2.4 it wouldn't work at all. And, AFAIK it has a better IPv6 implementation which is good for me cos I'm dabbling in it. Aaannnd.... *ego boost mode on ;)* it lets you specify tmpfs size as a percentage of avail ram+swap cos of a patch I submitted (which was fixed up by the maintaner but still ;) There's more but that's all I can think of off the top of my head. All up I've only had minor problems and I've been with it since it 2.5.59 (which was when I could backup my laptop and they stopped seriously screwing about with the IDE subsystem) and I've only experienced minor issues and no dataloss. > getting on, I would like to hear a little more than , its faster I > would like to get some fine details. More like what? If you ask a specific question I might be able to answer it. I'm no expert though. I've just been using it for a wee bit. -- "How can I not love the Americans?
