Ah, nice patch.  I did a stack trace, but I didn't see that. Good
catch. I was looking at the signed/unsigned comparisons that gcc threw
as warnings, but turns out that was a total red herring.

The motor code is rather messy. I was thinking of cleaning it up in
general. Are people using it? If anyone is actually interested in
using it, it might be worthwhile to maintain it.
