perhaps you coud try tuning parameters in /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ (lartc shoud have a guide about the most used ones). For me too ssh in crap networks has more problems than other protocols (but I have never meet your specific error) -- Chi usa software non libero avvelena anche te. Digli di smettere.
