Well I've also had the experience, that gnuplot has a very steep learning curve and that it takes some time to 'learn the gnuplot way'. After all, the manual contains more than 200 densely written pages - no easy reading. On the other hand, gnuplot is so powerful that it is worth the struggle. My 2ct.
