Have you tried without specifying "--rate 75" ? Since LCD pixels remains "on" (or "off") all the time (as opposed to CRT were pixel brightness was fading in a few milliseconds), there's no need for high refresh rate (i.e. how often the image is actually changed, so you eye perceive a motion). The default (60hz) ought to be just fine. (Of course, have a good response time is useful, to avoid blur effect, but that's another story).
