I learnt through this list to browse using privoxy and noscript. I
totally agree with you, and it feels like a completely different (and
much more pleasant) experience. When I use other machines to visit
some websites I know I sometimes barely recognize them and think "what
the hell is going on today?"...until I remember.

I'll have a look at flashblock.

I already use AdBlock plus and without disabling half of the sourceforge javascript, I wouldn't be able to visit that site at all unless I had time to kill.

I'm still convinced there's a iceweasel / ff issue here as well though - I'm sure it never froze so much before.

As for the Independent website, very strange mix of excellent HTML and CSS design, destroyed by overuse of flash and javascript. Strange.
