Well, then I think he will run into trouble getting his mail accepted as non-spam if he tries to be a mailserver that doesn't have a continuous presence on the internet at a fixed IP. Otherwise, he's expecting the sender's email server to hold onto mail destined for him and rely on their retry rules. While he may get some messages going, I think the failure rate will be high.
